Caroline Barker
Founder and Principal
CAROLINE BARKER has been a journalist for nearly 20 years. Much of that time was spent in senior editorial roles at the Herald Sun, Australia's most successful daily paper.
Once a reporter files their story, then the real work begins. Getting the news out involves a whole range of skills and processes most people don't think about - organisation, editing, design, information packaging, pictures and headlines, quality conrol - there's a lot to know and do before deadline.
Caroline meets many people from organisations that are eager for attention but are a bit baffled by the processes involved.
Some have great stories to tell and don't even know it. Others have a good idea, but aren't sure where to start. It all makes much more sense with a view from the inside.
These skills are also in demand for a wide range of professionals and groups who need good writing and presentation skills to reach their market.

Trust me, I'm a journalist

NO, REALLY. Don't press the send button yet.
The media is hungry for content but it has to be the right kind of content.
.
Most PR professionals have never seen the inside of a newsroom. They have deeply ingrained misconceptions about how the media works and thinks. WordSmartMedia knows the media from the inside out.
The statistics on press releases are not good. An estimated 90 per cent go straight into the bin - because they miss the point.
Media strategy matters. From years of inside experience, WordSmartMedia knows how to identify good content, and knows how the media really works.
